[CM] THE CASE

Chapter 21

Although there are many sufferings in the world, suffering can always be overcome. — Helen Keller

At night, the FBI headquarters is brightly lit.

When Gideon came downstairs, a few team members were sitting in the pantry chatting - mainly concerned about Griffith.

It rained heavily in Quantico today, and Griffith was drenched as soon as he stepped out of the subway station. When he got downstairs to the FBI, the guard almost didn't let the soaked chicken in.Although Reid lent clothes to Griffith, the latter still did not escape the fate of the cold, it can only be said that the performance of BAU's air conditioning is too good.

Greenaway held the cup and asked: "The weather forecast says it will rain, how can you not bring an umbrella?"

Griffith said in a heavily nasal voice: "My only umbrella broke and it was sunny when I went out."

Reid was eating a salad and said inarticulately, "You should go back to rest early, Hotch and Morgan are gone."

Griffith was very depressed: "I haven't finished the report yet, I thought it was almost finished, but who knows there is another document to be processed."

Reid's hand holding the fork paused, feeling that the plot was a bit familiar.

Greenaway laughed. "Oh, that's probably Morgan's. He occasionally mixes his files with someone else's. By the way, that other person is usually Reid."

Reid thought back quickly: "Is it the ones I gave you this morning?"

Griffith said hesitantly, "…maybe?"

His brain is not very clear, and his reaction is always slower, which is manifested in the dull eyes. For example, when he was talking, he unconsciously stared at Reid on the opposite side, and he couldn't think of changing the direction for a long time, and he was in a daze. Some people are prone to tears when they have a cold, and Griffith is unfortunately one of them. At this time, his black eyes are wet and he looks extraordinarily innocent.

Reid felt like he was being hit with guilt, even though Morgan was the culprit.

The arrival of Gideon happened to rescue the guilty little genius. The old detective asked, "Didn't everyone go home?"

Greenaway replied casually: "You too."

Gideon opened the refrigerator: "Yes, trust me, you will not want to use my social activities as a model."

JJ smiled and passed by holding the document: "If this makes you feel better, Hotch and Morgan are not here."

Reid explained: "Hotch is married, Morgan...he has his way."

Everyone remembered the brilliant love story of a handsome chocolate guy.

Griffith smiled: "Well, it's good."

Gideon took the file from JJ's hand at some point: "What is this?"

When it came to business, everyone lost their mood for small talk, and even Griffith, who was in low spirits, sat up straight.

"The police in Dayton, Ohio need us to analyze a serial rapist," JJ said.

Greenaway frowned. "What happened?"

"Three months ago, he raped five students of a certain small seminary, about one case a week, and then suddenly stopped committing crimes." JJ watched Gideon spread the victim's photos on the table, "Until nine days ago, he suddenly appeared , using a completely new modus operandi." She handed another stack of photos to Gideon: "The women who were victims were all about 30 years old, and they were raped within about five days."

Gideon continued to spread photos: "Where is the new incident?"

JJ: "Different edges of the city, he's waiting to hit them when they go home." She glanced at Greenaway as she spoke.

Reid and Griffith also turned to look at her.

Greenaway cleared his throat: "How do you know it's the same person who committed the crime?"

JJ: "He left a message."

Reid: "Keep them stunned before they see him."

Gideon looked at JJ: "Can't they recognize the voice?"

"No," JJ shrugged, "They got the DNA but it wasn't in the comparison system."

Griffith turned his head away, not wanting to see the photo: "Well, why do people who attack students at school cast their nets?"

Reid continued: "Serial criminals rarely change their fixed victim patterns, which are based on very specific fantasies."

Greenaway lowered his eyes: "Maybe he wants to tell the victim that everyone is in danger."

Reid gave her a strange look, and felt that this didn't sound like an FBI agent who was good at rape.

Gideon didn't find anything, "Notify Hotch and Morgan, we'll leave when we're sure—Griffith?"

Griffith looked up. "Yes."

"You can stay if you don't feel well."

"I'm fine, sir."

Gideon nodded, grabbed his drink and headed back to the office.

JJ went to confirm with the police in Ohio, presumably they will receive the notice of departure soon.

Reid cleared the table full of photos with a fork in his mouth, and Griffith coughed softly, helping too.

Only Greenaway didn't move. She seemed to be extremely tired, her eyes were not focused, and she was leaning on the chair, not knowing what she was thinking.

She didn't even notice Reid, who was secretly eyeing her.

Reid knew something was wrong with Greenaway, and he believed everyone in the BAU saw it, except Garcia. The BAU is a strange group, few people can keep a secret from them, but everyone tacitly keeps silent.Only when they see danger will they force the secret to be made public.

It's a respect.

"Elle," Reid said, "what were you thinking?"

Those dull eyes instantly turned into a sharp knife.

"It's nothing," Greenaway said with mock ease, "but it looks like Morgan's good news is about to blow again."

On a rainy night, a woman holds a red umbrella like a fragile flower.

She rushed home quickly, thinking of getting rid of the violent rain as soon as possible, but she didn't know that there was a more terrifying disaster at home.

He hid in the dark, quietly watching the prey unsuspectingly open the door.

The stockings were uncomfortable on his head, and his facial features were squeezed, like his twisted mind.

But what does it matter? He couldn't see it anyway.

Only his prey can see and be afraid, though he doesn't want them to be afraid. After all, love is beautiful and should not be feared.

The woman put down her umbrella and turned on the lamp. She caught a glimpse of the red light on the answering machine and pressed it as she guessed.

"It could be John," the woman thought, "this stupid guy has made a mistake again and begged me to go to work tomorrow."

Unexpectedly, a rough male voice came out: "I think we will meet soon."

The woman's heart was suddenly clenched by fear.

The sound was terrifying, like the whisper of a devil, like a hissing snake letter.

Her intuition only had time to give her a sharp alarm, and her limbs were still stiff with fear, but a gust of hot and humid wind blew past her ears.

The man said softly, "You came back so early today."

"Hotch, morning."

"Morning, Morgan."

Hotch pressed the close button, and there was only the two of them in the enclosed small space.

Morgan was wearing yesterday's clothes, Hotch didn't need to think about how he spent last night, if it wasn't for JJ's call, Morgan might have time to go home and change clothes.

The elevator started to run, and Morgan stood next to his boss, and began to exchange pleasantries: "Is Harley okay?"

"Fortunately," Hotch's serious expression slightly loosened, with a gentle smile in his eyes, "she joked in the morning, luckily she wasn't called away at night."

Normally, Morgan would make a few jokes, but today he just nodded curtly: "Well, Hotch, I have something to tell you."

"what's up?"

"About Griffith."

Hotch glanced at him sideways: "Yeah."

"I think Griffith is hiding a lot of things from us. Gideon should have inquired about it, but he didn't pay much attention." Morgan stared into Hotch's eyes. Those guys don't give BAU a break. Hotch, I don't understand this, but honestly, does he..."

——Is it sent by the higher authorities to monitor the BAU?

"No." Hotch cut off his question decisively, "Griffith was recommended by Mr. Nelson. Nelson has always maintained a neutral position, and recently he even leaned towards BAU. You don't have to worry about it."

After hearing this, Morgan knew that he knew what was on his mind, so he didn't say any more. But it looks like he still has something to say.

It's just that Hotch left him alone.

He remembered what Nelson had said to him when he delivered the files himself.

Mr. Nelson was older than Gideon, and his hair was already graying. But the old detectives seem to have one thing in common, which is keenness.

"Griffith is special," Nelson said. "He needs BAU's help, and I believe he will be a great addition to BAU."

Hotch never doubted Nelson's words, there is a reason why the top is the top.Not to mention Nelson, an excellent detective with a reputation for impartiality and strictness.

However, as Morgan said, Griffith did not bring any changes to BAU, is it because of his secrecy?

The elevator was about to arrive, Morgan hesitated all the way and finally blurted out: "Also, about Elle..."

"I know." Hotch cut him off again.

The elevator doors opened, and Elle was waiting at the door of the BAU with suitcases at her feet.

Hotch said softly, "I trust her, how about you?"

"I want to believe her," Morgan thought, "but I also want to doubt her."

Greenaway dragged the box and greeted him: "Hi, are you ready?"

"Of course." Morgan said with a smile, "I want to change first, Hotch?"

The boss of BAU said lightly: "I'll give you 5 minutes."
