[CM] THE CASE

Chapter 24

The glory of life lies not in never failing, but in being able to rise again and again. — Napoleon

The end of the second day was depressing for all.

Even if they followed the clinic's clues to find the first-hand media, even if they read all the documents and locked a potential victim, they still failed to save her.

Griffith watched the victim being loaded into the ambulance from afar, and heard the metal doors clatter shut like a desperate woman closing her world.Once again he fell into the abyss of fear, screaming sirens, whispering onlookers, talking to and from staff, everything was like the call of hell in a midnight nightmare.

On the other side, Elle uncontrollably accused Callahan of negligence, was stopped by Morgan, and was semi-forced to leave the scene.

Reid stood on the lush lawn, almost at a loss.

It's not like they haven't experienced such an experience. They clearly knew who and where the victim was, but they were one step too late.

Heroes always break out to save the world at the last second, but they are not heroes, they are just a group of ordinary people. They scratched their heads and tried their best to stop those demons who refused to stop, for fear that someone would be hurt if it was a second late.

"Is it my fault?" Reid thought. "Am I not efficient enough? Am I not trying my best?"

He picked himself up from head to toe, trying to find a reason to excuse himself, but his sense of self-blame didn't abate in the slightest.

"Reid."

Gideon wanted to pat him on the shoulder, but Reid was too tall, so he had to put his hand on his arm.

Reid tilted his head and looked at the old man who valued himself.

"Remember what I said?" Gideon said, "You did your best."

Reid nodded hesitantly.

The first time Reid faced this failure, he was depressed.I know intellectually that it is not my fault, but I am not so easy to forgive myself emotionally. Reid remembered it was a girl, and by the time they got there the body was already cold. The girl's eyes were wide open, as if she was looking forward to the arrival of salvation.

It's a pity she didn't wait, they arrived too late.

Gideon patted him again, turned and walked towards Griffith.

Once Elle jokingly called Gideon "Mom", Reid thought about it afterward and thought it was very appropriate. Hotch and Gideon, the BAU led by two experienced and excellent detectives, are actually not so mature members.

Morgan is impulsive and can't control his emotions well; Elle has symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder after experiencing a shooting; Garcia has not received formal psychological training and cannot effectively adjust her mentality; Reid's social skills and experience What a mess, he'd rather spend an entire weekend in the library than an hour in a bar; JJ isn't confident and often questions his own judgment; as for Griffith...

Reid watches as Gideon talks to Griffith.

Griffith has a lot of secrets and doesn't always blend in with the team. Therefore, Hotch and Gideon are like a pair of parents, taking care of a group of immature children all the time.

Gideon "Mum" dutifully talked to Griffith for a while. Griffith is a newcomer and needs timely counseling, although Griffith looks the same as usual.

His face was still pale, and his fingers played with the bracelet habitually, as if seeking comfort.

Gideon stared at his bracelet for a while, and finally ended the heart-to-heart talk: "We will still encounter this situation, don't lose heart. The first priority is to catch the suspect, understand?"

Griffith whispered, "Understood."

"That's good." Gideon turned to leave.

"Wait." Griffith stopped him aloud. "This is the last person on his list, isn't it?"

"so?"

"He won't stop, he will just start over." Griffith tugged on the bracelet tightly, "He won't be satisfied, I want to say, can we take advantage of this..."

Gideon reacted immediately: "You mean..."

Griffith looked up and met Gideon's eyes. "Can we, give him a bait?"

"Are you sure Elle is up to it?" Morgan questioned Hotch, "She just lost control last night, and she hasn't been in a good state these days."

Looking at Elle in full armor, Hotch replied, "I trust her, and we're all there."

Morgan opened his mouth, and seemed to put a lot of effort into suppressing the swear words: "I reminded you of Elle's question before I came out, have you forgotten it?"

"Otherwise?" Hotch glanced at him, "JJ can't, she has no experience and has shown her face in front of the media."

Morgan retorted, "And Callahan."

"She is the leader, it is impossible to risk her life."

Morgan was speechless, and after a while he said, "I know, I just have a bad feeling."

"We had no choice but to trust her," Hotch said.

Elle happened to look at them, Morgan smiled at her, opened the door and went in.

Gideon was sitting on the sidelines explaining to Elle, Hotch soon joined. Morgan finally gave her a fist bump to cheer her up.

Meanwhile, Griffith is on the phone with Garcia.

"Yes, the house is owned by the government. Temporary expropriation. The procedures are fine, but it needs to be dealt with. JJ is contacting the cleaning company. Oh, and we need to cover up all the government affairs." Griffith dropped the real estate certificate in his hand, "Also, Regarding Elle's falsified identity..."

Garcia clacked and tapped on the keyboard: "I know, the almighty Garcia never disappoints handsome guys."

"Hmm..." Griffith didn't know how to respond, so he had to be vague, "The information doesn't need to be too detailed, as long as there are no flaws."

"It doesn't matter," Garcia said proudly, "The details are only a matter of a minute—alright, it's being transmitted."

Reid was standing in front of the fax machine and heard the sound of the machine starting up. The materials and certificates were printed in a short time. Griffith complimented Garcia's speed: "You're awesome."

Garcia said proudly, "A few more compliments? Handsome guy, I've worked so hard all day just for this benefit."

Griffith looked at Reid in embarrassment, and Reid pretended not to know anything, and went to sort out the information. So he had no choice but to bite the bullet and do it himself: "Uh, thank you, omnipotent lady genius."

Reid laughs—isn't that one of Garcia's favorite brags?

However, Garcia was very satisfied with this plagiarized compliment, and she said sweetly: "Thank you, it is my honor, handsome Mr. Detective."

Griffith was so embarrassed that he said goodbye and hung up.

Reid couldn't hold back his smile, Griffith couldn't be more embarrassed and blushed. Reid knew that oriental people were more tactful, and Garcia's unrestrained compliment might be shameless for Griffith, but it worked well.

JJ just came in and gave Griffith a strange look: "What's wrong? Why are you so red?"

Reid laughed so hard that his hands shook, and the stapler unfortunately fell to the floor.

Griffith cleared his throat: "It's okay, um, all ready?"

JJ said: "It's almost there, Callahan is still assigning manpower. Although it has been unoccupied for a long time, the problem of water and electricity is not a big problem, and it will be fine after cleaning."

Griffith nodded. "Well, can you make sure he's hooked today?"

"I don't know, but the cycle of his crime is short and it won't take too much time." Reid continued, "Hotch has put pressure on it before, and Elle's information will be handled by each of their employees. We have also screened other questionnaires, and there is no question."

JJ breathed a sigh of relief: "Then just wait until it gets dark. Don't you go at night?"

Reid shook his head: "No, Hotch arranged for us to be on standby at the bureau."

"Well, there's no room in the car anyway." JJ randomly picked a chair and sat down.In fact, it was not Hotch but her who put pressure on the clinic and the first-hand media. The boss used to express his position, and she was the one who negotiated. After a morning of dry mouth, it would be a lie to say that she was not tired, but she was so tired that she was willing.

The jerk can be caught at night, and for this reason JJ thinks he can negotiate with ten more media outlets.

Unfortunately, things are far from as beautiful as she imagined.

The interrogation room was prepared early in the morning, but the interrogators were temporarily changed from the original Gideon and Morgan to Gideon and Hotch—they needed more experienced detectives to make false confessions, and the prisoners should confess their crimes.

Because of Elle's mistake, they didn't get all the stolen goods.

Griffith watched the prisoner through the glass. As profiled, he is white, between 20 and 40 years old, with a weak personality. He kept his face sideways during the conversation, not daring to look Gideon squarely.Hair and beard covered most of his face. Even when he mentioned the crime he had committed, he was moved by it, but he hesitated to speak.

Until the lawyer broke in and forcibly took him away.

Morgan cursed under his breath, and Reid looked at Gideon in disappointment.

Griffith stood at the door of the interrogation room and did not leave.

He heard Elle berating Hotch, heard Reid asking how Elle was doing, and heard Gideon sigh deeply.

Griffith thought, "I'm going to do something."

"There's nothing we can do," Hotch said apologetically to Callahan. "Then we'll have to wait for him to show himself. I'm sure you can do it."

Callahan nodded. "Okay."

After several days of investigation work, in the end, there was no result, which was a blow to everyone. Everyone at BAU had an early rest and is going to leave for Quantico tomorrow.

However, in the night wind, there were still people lurking, waiting.
